  After being under the cosh for the vast majority of the opening 35 minutes, Liverpool scored against the run of play when the returning Gravenberch rifled in a low shot from 25 yards out. That silenced the raucous home crowd, who sensed the Magpies were on the cusp of taking the lead.

'Isak is a rat' shirts were sold outside the ground before kick-off as Magpies fans eagerly anticipated their side getting stuck into the defending Premier League champions. But with Gravenberch's goal and Anthony Gordon's reckless red card before the break, things looked less rosy for the Toon heading into the second 45.
